BioForward member Robert Merrill (uFunctional LLC) marks five years as an independent software consultant.

Robert started uFunctional (the opposite of dysfunctional) in 2007, after nearly 10 years in software development, process improvement, and technical sales with Berbee Information Networks Corp. Before that, Robert spent 10 years at UW-Madison, conducting research and developing software using weather satellite information, statistics, and mathematics. He holds a PhD in Atmospheric Science and a graduate certificate in Bioinformatics.

uFunctional helps Madison-area firms get the most value out of custom software and the organizational ecosystems that create and maintain it. Specialties include requirements definition, project cost and schedule estimation, buy vs. build decisions, vendor and product selection, software team formation, and hands-on programming alongside your team. Robert's choices of technical and management practices ensure shortest time-to-value, while preserving maintainability and extensibility of the software even as needs change.
