The Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, a 330,000-ft2facility on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been named 2012's Laboratory of the Year. The competition is sponsored annually by R&D Magazine and is judged by a panel of industry experts. The Laboratory of the Year represents the highest overall standards in both architecture and laboratory design, and generally illustrates push-the-envelope concepts in science buildings.
The winning facility is home to twin institutes: the private, nonprofit Morgridge Institute for Research and the public Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Public-private research collaboration across disciplines such as biology, information technology, and engineering is the focus of the institutes, with the goal of advancing human health and well being.
