Founded in 1985, our mission and commitment to the community remain the same today as we develop a new generation of creative professionals and service leaders. We provide a holistic vision and a high level of service to each unique design while cultivating a collaborative partnership with every client. We approach all projects the same way, listening first and dedicating one team to manage from beginning to end.
RAMLOW/STEIN serves advanced scientific markets and develops facilities that inspire creative thinking, technological innovation, and a sense of community. We strive to design highly advanced facilities created to increase efficiencies and lower carbon footprint. When designing for biohealth, future development, master planning, design flexibility, and adaptation to new technologies are paramount to the process.

What are the key areas of or achievements by your organization that are impacting the state of Wisconsin and the overall biohealth industry?
RAMLOW/STEIN has been a leader in sustainability and innovation. Our designs focus on occupant comfort, building performance, and energy conservation, utilizing passive measures and forward-looking technology to exceed standard sustainability metrics. We achieve this by incorporating the use of heavy timber construction, mass hydronic heating and cooling, energy recovery, natural ventilation, and solar photovoltaics.
At RAMLOW/STEIN we design with future flexibility and resiliency; given the fast pace of technology innovations in the laboratory sciences industry, we consider programmatic space growth strategies in offices, lab spaces, and equipment storage.
What about the future of research, medical, technological innovation excites you the most?
We are excited that all of this new and innovative research and technology is right at our doorstep. RAMLOW/STEIN is thrilled to play a role in this growth by creating high functioning lab and research spaces to spur more innovation.
Why Wisconsin? What does Wisconsin (and/or Madison/Milwaukee) offer for your company and/or your/its families?
RAMLOW/STEIN is a local architecture and interior design company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but our work stretches throughout the state. We strive to work on projects that bring prosperity to our local communities, working with businesses, civic centers, educational facilities, and more to develop innovative, pragmatic, and efficient systems for their products, processes, and uses.
What would you recommend about or say to others about Wisconsin’s biohealth industry and research institutions?
Innovation is happening in Wisconsin because we are able to leverage our top-tier research institutions and our strong entrepreneurship sector. Wisconsin has a wealth of support systems to help foster and grow catalytic technologies, and RAMLOW/STEIN is proud to be a part of this growth.
