Are you a student interested in biohealth research? Do you have a passion for effective communication and presenting your ideas? Then BioForward’s annual student communications competition is the perfect opportunity for you! Whether an undergraduate or a graduate student, this competition offers a platform to showcase your research, gain valuable experience, network with industry leaders, and even win cash prizes at this year’s Wisconsin Biohealth Summit.

In the past, the student communications competition was exclusively open to graduate students. However, BioForward has decided to expand the contest this year and introduce a brand-new category for undergraduate students. This means that regardless of your academic level, you can participate and make your mark in biohealth communications.

For undergraduate students, the competition invites you to create a captivating 3-minute video discussing a topic within personalized medicine. This is an incredible opportunity to explore an area of interest, delve into the world of personalized medicine, and convey your ideas effectively through a visual medium. To get started, visit the undergrad competition website, where you can find example topics, participation, video requirements, and the submission portal.

On the other hand, graduate and medical students will have the chance to present their research, or research conducted by their PI, in a concise, accurate, and engaging 3-minute video. This is your moment to showcase the results of your hard work, share your findings with a broader audience, and polish your communication skills. Last year’s winners’ videos, valuable resources, and competition details can be found on the graduate competition website to aid you in your preparation.

To be considered for the competition, all video submissions must be completed and submitted by 5 PM CST on September 15th. Following the submission deadline, BioForward staff will carefully review the entries and select the top 5 undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional communication skills, compelling execution, and excellence. If you’re among the chosen few, you can present in person at the prestigious Wisconsin Biohealth Summit, where cash prizes await the winners.

The Biohealth Communications Competition is a relatively new initiative that started in 2021 to inspire graduate students and fellows to develop their communication and presentation skills. Last year’s winners, Vaidehi Patil, Nathan Novy, and Mike Jindra, all from UW-Madison, showcased students’ incredible talent and dedication in the biohealth field. Now, it’s your turn to join their ranks and make a name for yourself.

Participating in this competition is more than just a chance to win prizes; it’s an opportunity to refine your ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, connect with industry leaders, and make valuable connections within the biohealth community. The skills you’ll gain from this experience will be invaluable as you progress in your academic and professional journey.

So, don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity! Start brainstorming your video ideas, gather your research, and prepare to impress the judges with your excellent communication skills. The Biohealth Communications Competition at the 2023 Wisconsin Biohealth Summit is waiting for your voice to be heard.

Remember, the submission deadline is September 15th, so mark your calendars and prepare to share your passion for biohealth research with the world. Good luck!
