Startup Milwaukee Week is back! Now in its second official year, MSW will take place November 6-12th, 2017. This week-long “event” is actually a collection of dozens of individual events held throughout the city.

This year, the healthcare technology industry is very well represented. We have picked out four must-attend events for those of us that work in healthcare.

Trials, tribulations and lessons learned in funding and growing healthcare/tech startups in WisconsinMore Info & Registration
Concordia University Wisconsin Center – Waukesha, 12pm-1:30pm

While the details are a bit light on this event, it looks to be valuable for healthtech entrepreneurs looking to grow their idea or transform their research into a startup. Presenters Loren Peterson and Steven Visuri brings a wealth of experience to the table. Peterson is the owner of EAS-MKE, an entrepreneurial advisory firm that works with colleges and universities to help devise tactics for developing and commercializing innovative research, often through startup companies. Before that, Peterson was the Managing Director and CFO for Venture Investors, LLC, a Madison-based venture capital firm focused on making seed and early stage healthcare and technology investments. Visuri is currently CEO and co-founder of FloraSeq LLC, a company that is in early stage clinical trials with a microbiota-based drug for treating gastrointestinal diseases. Prior to FloraSeq, Visuri built an impressive resume in the healthtech world.

Stop by Zimmerman Architectural Studios for an evening of networking, discussion, and refreshments for the official launch of Healthtech MKE, Milwaukee’s first organization dedicated to supporting the healthcare technology industry. The night will feature a panel discussion including Amanda Baltz (CEO of Spaulding Medical), Jake Behrens (CEO of Envision ADHD) and Jason Mason (President of Launch Milwaukee). Healthtech Startup ShowcaseMore Info & Registration
Hilton Milwaukee City Center, 4pm-5pm

Healthtech MKE will take over the Crystal Ballroom at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center to help showcase Milwaukee’s growing healthcare technology scene. You can expect that a dozen or so healthtech startups will be on hand to show off their ideas and products. This is an informal event — no schedule or formal presentations. So stop down and learn about the innovation that is happening right here in Milwaukee! And, you can stick around for Healthcare Innovation Pitch that directly follows this event.

Healthcare Innovation Pitch (HIP) EventMore Info & Registration
Hilton Milwaukee City Center, 5pm-9pm

At the Healthcare Innovation Pitch (HIP), you can watch 14 teams of healthcare entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of venture capitals and serial entrepreneurs. Think of this as a friendlier version of the television program, “Shark Tank”. These innovators will be competing for a chance to win over $30,000 in seed funding, free legal services, and complimentary startup space.  There will be refreshments and opportunities for networking. This one should be fun!

Startup Milwaukee IGNITION: Aurora Health Care + EmOptiMore Info & Registration
PKWARE, 6pm-9pm

Presumably the first in a series of events, IGNITION promises to explore the partnerships between established companies and local high-growth startups. This particular event will explore the partnership between Aurora Health Care and EmOpti, a Milwaukee-area startup focused on optimizing acute care. This event, like all events mentioned in this post, is free. You can also expect complimentary beer and pizza.

These should be some great events for the Milwaukee healthcare/healthtech community. We’ll be in attendance. If you see us, stop and say hello!
