What to Expect in 2026

National Leadership & Governance

2026 is a pivotal year for the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub (WBTH) as we continue to implement the projects initiated by the $80+ million investment into the hub by federal, state, public, and private partners. The WBTH is focused on scaling our infrastructure, launching direct-to-patient services, and cementing our position as a global leader in personalized medicine.

Elevating Wisconsin's Profile

We are increasing our national visibility through high-impact media presence and by hosting a Multi-Tech Hub summit right here in Wisconsin to foster cross-regional innovation.

Operational Excellence

Our consortium is committed to the highest standards of transparency, meeting 100% of reporting timelines, and sharing Wisconsin’s best practices with other Tech Hubs across the country

Future Sustainability

We are actively diversifying our funding through new federal opportunities, state-level partnerships, and sustainable operation models to ensure the Hub's impact lasts for decades.

Five Projects. Collaborative Implementation.

The Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub Projects with guidance from the Goveranance Project are working together to solidify Wisconsin's position as a global leader in personalized medicine. They are commited to the following in 2026:

Wisconsin Health Data Hub

Seamless Data Integration: By mid-2026, we will achieve full technical integration of the WHDH with our partner hospital systems, creating a unified, federated query platform for secure biohealth research.

  • Trusted Governance: We are establishing a formal Data Governance Committee and rigorous cybersecurity protocols to ensure all research intake and data usage meets the highest ethical and HIPAA-compliant standards.
CAREScan Mobile Screening

Bringing Care to the Community: We are taking personalized medicine on the road this year with the official launch of our mobile care fleet, including a specialized mammography unit.

  • Tech-Enabled Health: Users will have access to a customized telehealth platform and the new "CARECompanion" app, ensuring expert consults are delivered in 48 hours or less.
Image Guided Therapy & Theranostics

Clinical Integration: We are moving advanced theranostics into routine clinical use at major health systems like UW and Froedtert, directly impacting patient outcomes through measurably positive clinical experiences.

  • Proving the Value: By the end of 2026, we will have gathered enough data to complete a comprehensive analysis of the economic and clinical benefits of these workflows, validating Wisconsin’s lead in this space.
Workforce & Economic Development

Expanding the Talent Pipeline: This year alone we are creating clear pathways into biohealth careers for hundreds of individuals through youth apprenticeships, summer "Earn & Learn" programs, and specialized occupational training.

  • Empowering Local Business: Our outreach is focused on growing our network of Milwaukee-based and manufacturing partners, ensuring small business (under 500 employees) engagement in the biohealth ecosystem.
Innovation to Commercialization

Fueling Startups: We are providing direct support to 18 biohealth startups through the Innovation to Commercialization Pipeline (ICP) and will be adding to that number with direct support to more young companies by the end of the year.

  • Infrastructure Growth: To meet the rising demand for lab space, we are launching a major remodeling and expansion of our bio-lab facilities in Madison and expanding these services to the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
