Wisconsin became a 'Biohealth tech hub' under Biden. The hub is bustling.
Patients from underserved parts of Wisconsin will be able to access mobile medical screenings later this year, and a new batch of biohealth startup companies were just awarded grants to make their innovations more attainable.
Those are two results so far of a federal designation 18 months ago that opened up millions of dollars in federal, state and private funding to the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub, a group that’s using the money to expand workforce training, launch personalized medicine initiatives and ease barriers to care.
The hub includes Madison and Milwaukee, pairing the capital city’s research and medical innovation with Milwaukee’s manufacturing power. Since designation, the group has hired more than 80 staff members across four project areas and will launch two of its projects this year.
